THESE were some of the players who brought Oxford City success on the football field in the late 1950s.
The picture comes from one of the team, Bryn Hyde, of Combewell, Garsington.
He was prompted to send it in after reading our obituary of team-mate Johnny McKiernan (Oxford Mail, September 9).
Mr Hyde writes: “I played with John in the late 1950s at Oxford City and have found this very old picture of the presentation night at Oxford Town Hall.
“The picture is of Oxford City Colts and A team players.”
He has supplied most of the names. Can anyone fill in the gaps?
As we recalled, Mr McKiernan, who died in August aged 68, was a lifelong football fan, playing for City and supporting both City and Oxford United in later years.
He was a U’s season ticket-holder for 40 years, and earned the nickname ‘John from Littlemore’ due to his numerous calls to Radio Oxford’s post-match phone-ins.
