Sir – May I offer two points on wind turbines? Perhaps it’s at birth, when people divide into the pro and the anti-turbine camps. For me, just as spires can be endearingly dreaming, I find the turbines enchanting, hypnotic even.
My second observation is that I hope, with colleagues at Rutherford Appleton, to help secure some British benefit for all the money going into wind power. Magnets for laboratories and MRI scanners are the first (local) industry enabled by superconductors.
Smaller, lighter and more efficient generators for wind turbines could be the next.
