Police are holding a pre-Christmas exhibition in Sonning Common village hall designed to help prevent residents become victims of crime and scams and to keep them safe over Christmas.

Police have arranged the exhibition on Friday, December 4, following a series of house burglaries in the village in the last eight weeks and recent reports of doorstep sellers in Shiplake and Henley.

Residents will be able to get specialist security advice at the event and pick up an ultra-violet pen to security code their valuables.

There is also extra help available for elderly residents who need to replace locks which are not up to security standards. The police will be joined by Oxfordshire County Council trading standards and road safety team. Trading standards will be on hand to give advice on doorstep sellers, rogue traders and your consumer rights when buying goods and services.

There will also be advice on road safety and residents will be able to speak to the road safety team about any concerns they have.

Crime reduction advisor Julia Wheeler is urging people from Sonning Common and all the surrounding villages to come along to the event, she said: “We want to help residents to prevent further house burglaries.

“Visitors to the exhibition will be given information to help deter the thieves and avoid falling victim to bogus callers and rogue traders."
