OXFORD City council leader Bob Price has at last answered questions about the loss of public toilets in the city (Oxford Mail letters, November 12).
From his references to council proceedings and in particular ‘motions on notice’ at council meetings having no revelance, it seems obvious that he sees no need for public toilets when so many motions are on the table.
Now we can understand why meetings are so short and also why there are so many rushed decisions.
People just want to get out of the chambers as fast as possible for some fresh air.
No one doubts Mr Price’s ability to be council leader, but do the public have to absorb so many unwanted motions before they can understand council procedure?
It is time commonsense prevailed with straightforward rules that the general public can understand – then councillors’ comments and rhetoric would be better comprehended.
The old style council body, which was tiered from office boys to chief executive, worked far better than the present system of councillors being appointed to oversee specific departments.
This just presents infighting between departments instead of flexible partnerships that back each other.
Sorry Bob, the public is not interested in political correctness. Political correctness is not based on commonsense or rational decisions.
As I have said many times before in this newspaper, we want debate and action, not talk followed by nothing happening.
