TWO men were today convicted of an unprovoked late-night attack on a 35-year-old man in Bicester.

A jury at Oxford Crown Court found Stephen Brown, 25, of Leach Road, Bicester, and David Lambrianou, 22, of Avocet Way, Bicester, guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The court heard the pair had been drinking in the Penny Black and White Hart pubs in Sheep Street on November 29, 2007, before they were refused entry to G’s Bar in Market Square at about 11.30pm.

Richard O’Rourke, now 37, was leaving G’s Bar and was followed by Lambrianou and Brown, who punched him to the floor and kicked him in the head.

A witness dialled 999 and the attackers were arrested nearby.

Mr O’Rourke suffered a fractured cheek and needed surgery to insert a metal plate and screws into his face.

In court, Stephen Crouch, defending Brown, offered no evidence, and his client declined to take the witness stand.

The court was told Lambrianou, who has 51 previous offences, offered no comment in his initial police interview.

However, Alex Dunn, defending Lambrianou, said police found no blood on his client’s clothes.

Recorder Richard Hamlin remanded the pair in custody to be sentenced on December 8. Lambrianou will also be sentenced for two separate offences of possessing cocaine.

As he was led away he shouted to the jury: “You’ve got me sent down for something I haven’t done.”
