FOUR public toilets have been saved from closure by Oxford City Council because it is in line for a cash boost from the Government.
Toilets at Knights Road in Blackbird Leys, Cowley Road in Littlemore, and South Parade and Woodstock Road in Summertown, will now remain open, after the council was told it would receive additional funding for its concessionary bus fares scheme.
But toilets in Castle Street in the city centre, at Headington Hill Park, and Barns Road, Cowley, are still likely to close.
The matter is being discussed at the council’s value and performance scrutiny committee tonight and a decision will be confirmed at the council’s executive board on December 2.
John Tanner, board member for cleaner, greener Oxford, said: "We're delighted that we are able to keep these public toilets open.
"We are able to do this because the Government, in response to a lobbying campaign by Oxford City Council, has allocated some extra funding to help us cover the cost of the concessionary bus fare scheme.
"We are using some of this funding to keep these toilets open."
