Diners will be able to check the hygiene standards of restaurants before they book a table.

Cherwell District Council’s public protection team has joined Scores on the Doors, a service which gives restaurants marks out of five on cleanliness.

Scores are based on inspections by the council’s environmental health officers.

Five stars is deemed excellent and zero stars very poor.

Nigel Morris, executive member for community safety, street scene and rural services, said: “It’s simple to look up the scores on the website or they are displayed on the restaurant’s window. We’ll be looking at the premises that didn’t get any stars to show real improvements when we retest them.”
