So, the city council, in its finite wisdom, has gone ahead with closing a quarter of Oxford’s public toilets, despite the widespread opposition to this move.
Bob Price, Leader of the City Council, claims (Oxford Mail letters, November 12) that ‘the proposed closures...have been the subject of an extensive consultation exercise’.
However, the council’s questionnaire on the subject didn’t actually ask people if they were in favour of the proposed closures. It simply asked more general questions about toilet facilities.
Besides, when people were asked ‘what do you think of the quantity of public toilet sites in the city?’, 55 per cent replied ‘too few’ and only four per cent said ‘too many’.
If this is Mr Price’s idea of responding to ‘consultation’, I suggest he seeks another job.
