A town will celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of the world’s largest music festivals – Woodstock, held in upstate New York, USA, in 1969 – with shows of its own.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Woodstock Live will celebrate the spirit of the festival with live music performed in the town, from noon to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday, August 29 and 30.

Acts confirmed so far include the 20-piece Oxford Gospel Choir, Bowmer and Holmes, guitarists TP and Woodman, opera snippets from Vital Recitals, The Roundheels and The Marmadukes.

Also playing will be Braindogs, who will close Saturday night’s performances, and Cooper Black will close Sunday.

Other venues around the town will also be hosting live performances each evening.

Spokesman Anne Stabler said: “It’s all about taking diverse and interesting music into a lovely space.”
