BRIDE-TO-BE Kim Smith got into a car after a row with her partner and drove to a police station – only to be arrested for drink-driving.

Mum-of-two Smith, 25, of Stonesfield, near Witney, had an argument following a meal at an Oxford restaurant on August 2, Oxford Magistrates’ Court heard today.

She was so upset that later in the evening she took her sister-in-law’s Peugeot to drive to her grandmother’s in Aylesbury.

But the court heard she instead drove to the nearest police station, so as not to endanger pedestrians or other drivers.

Smith, who is due to get married this Saturday, was also driving without a licence and insurance.

After parking outside the police station in St Aldate’s, Oxford, Smith confessed to staff at the front desk that she had been drinking and had taken her sister-in-law’s car without having a driving licence.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, breathalysed and found to be just under twice the legal drink-drive limit.

Ruth Draisy, defending, said: “She made a decision to take her sister-in-law’s car and drive it to Aylesbury to see her grandmother.

“When she got on the Oxford ring road she thought she should not be driving the car and drove to the nearest police station.”

Tim Pocock, chairman of the bench, disqualified Smith from driving for 18 months.

Smith, of Longore, who admitted all the offences, was fined £100 for drink-driving and £100 for driving without insurance. Her driving record was endorsed for driving without a licence.

She was also ordered to pay £75 court costs.
