A TODDLER has died in hospital 10 days after being found lying in a pond at his grandparents home in Wales.

Nineteen-month-old Daniel Peralta, of Ashdale Avenue, Witney, died on Monday afternoon at the specialist child care unit at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

He fell into the pond at his grandparents’ home in Hawarden, Flintshire, on the evening of Saturday, August 1, during a family gathering.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the boy and he was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital before being transferred to Liverpool, where he was put on a life-support machine.

His parents, Laura and Jorge Peralta, who run tailoring firm Peralta’s Tailoring from their home, were keeping a vigil at their son’s bedside.

Prayers were said at Welcome Evangelical Church, in High Street, Witney, where the couple worshipped.

Last night, one neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “All the neighbours are just devastated. It’s a tragedy. We will give the family our full support when they return.”

A coroner has adjourned an inquest. It is understood the cause of death was brain injury due to drowning.

A police spokesman said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and North Wales Police is investigating the matter on behalf of the coroner.”
