Fourteen drivers were stopped for motoring offences in a vehicle check near Standlake.

Thames Valley Police Road Safety Officers, working in conjunction with Oxfordshire County Council Trading Standards, carried out the check at Newbridge on the A415, near Standlake.

Between 6am and noon today, vehicles were stopped and checked to ensure they were under the bridge weight limit of 18 tonnes.

  • Eight drivers were given a £30 non-endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice for having vehicles over the weight limit
  • Four drivers were given a £60 endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice for driving while using a mobile phone
  • One driver had their vehicle seized for having no insurance
  • One driver will receive a court summons for having no insurance.

Road Safety Constable Mark Pilling, said: “This check demonstrates that drivers of large vehicles should be fully aware of their maximum gross weight and, if it is over the designated limit, they should find an alternative route.

"Weight limits are there for a reason and ignoring them could put both the drivers and other road users at risk.

“We will continue with our campaign of enforcement and education across Oxfordshire to spread these important road safety messages.”
