FORMER Oxford United star Joey Beauchamp has been charged with drink driving after being arrested by police on Monday night.

The 38-year-old, above, who notched up more than 400 appearances for the Yellows, was arrested at 11.20pm on Monday in Scott Road, Cutteslowe.

Beauchamp, of Titup Hall Drive, in Wood Farm, was in a silver Golf GTI at the time of the incident.

A police spokesman said Beauchamp was arrested for “driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol level above the limit”.

However, police would not reveal any alcohol reading.

Beauchamp was released on bail to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 20.

A poll by the United fanzine Rage On voted the former left-winger Oxford United’s player of the last decade and he became the first U’s player to leave the club for £1m when he moved to West Ham United in 1994.

The former Summertown Stars youth player returned to United in a £300,000 move in 1995 after a short spell at Swindon Town.

He played a key part in the campaign which earned Oxford promotion from the old League Two to League One in 1996.

His 77 goals for the club mean he is fifth in the all-time U’s scoring chart.
