DETECTIVES last night refused to comment on how an Abingdon wo-man came to be at the home of her allegedly abusive former fiancé.

Julie Sudlow, of Berry Croft, was discovered stabbed to death in the Hampshire home of murder suspect Stewart Shaw on Friday.

Mr Shaw is believed to have jumped in front of a train at Winchester hours before Mrs Sudlow’s body was found — although police have not yet confirmed his identity.

The couple had been due to get married on Monday, August 3, but their relationship broke down earlier this year.

Shaw was due in court next week accused of assaulting Mrs Sudlow.

Yesterday police refused to say if they believed she went to Shaw’s home in Waterlooville of her own accord or if she was kidnapped.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: “We are not commenting on the circumstances of what happened because the investigation is ongoing.”

Police have continued to refuse to comment if the dead man is Shaw, saying only that the two deaths were connected and the pair knew each other. However nobody else is being sought in connection with the murder of the 41-year-old.

The spokesman added: “There is nothing more to say at the moment.

“It is going to be a few days before anything new comes out.

“The man who died at Winchester train station has still not been officially identified and we will not be saying anything else on the relationship between the two, or if there was one, until then.”

Last night, some of the residents in Berry Croft, where Mrs Sudlow lived, said they did not know the Millets Farm Centre restaurant worker was engaged to Mr Shaw.

One 86-year-old said: “They were a very private family.

“I used to see the children when they were little, but I have no idea who her new partner was. I have never seen him.”

Another neighbour said: “I used to talk to her ex-husband Michael, but then he moved to Russia.

“We didn’t know much about her since she split from Michael. I didn’t know she was going to get married.”
