WE’VE said it before and we’ll keep on saying it. Rose Hill needs a better deal.

No matter what the claims are about the politics behind this latest story, the black and white facts do not look good. Out of £6.7m of regeneration funding the city council dished out over 10 years, Rose Hill got nothing.

Blackbird Leys, however, was boosted by £1.3m, Barton £2.5m and East Oxford Action £2.9m.

That is not to say that the money was not needed in those areas. To do so would divert the argument and just turn area against area, missing the central point: Rose Hill needs more facilities.

There is, of course, the Orlits replacement and plans for Rose Hill Primary but actual amenities are thin on the ground. And the area eventually lost the long-running saga over the former Peers pool.

The council’s arguments simply do not wash. Their list includes a lot of things that are similarly provided on other estates, so chucking them into the mix paints an inaccurate picture.

Ultimately though it is in Rose Hill’s hands to really pressurise for an improvement.

A concerted voice from the community holding the decision-makers to account is the way people can ensure they make a difference to their area.
