Sir – I would like to make a couple of points about the new Bicester suburb the Government recently approved.

Where did this plan spring from? We’ve heard absolutely nothing about it – no leaflets, nothing – and it’s on our doorstep.

We heard a great deal about the Weston-on-the-Green eco-town, even here in Bucknell – some miles away from it.

Although flawed, that proposal was at least made public, and had at least given some thought to the crucial and basic issue of how people were supposed to get in and out of it.

Exactly how are the inhabitants of the new suburb supposed to get in and out of it? All we’ve heard is that walking and cycling are going to be encouraged — great — but what about journeys further afield?

There’s some vague mention in your paper of a bus route along the railway embankment. How and where could this be constructed? I can think of only two possibilities (a) over the existing rail line, or (b) alongside it, necessitating the demolition of people’s homes in Purslane Drive and/or Barry Avenue and other streets, and noise, pollution and disruption to other local residents. I am genuinely puzzled as to how such an ill thought-out and vague plan (so weak on any detail that it scarcely qualifies as a plan) has been approved by central Government, with absolutely no public consultation. Can anyone enlighten me?
