Fifty motorists were caught breaking the 30mph speed limit near Culham today, including one motorist who was clocked driving at 56mph.

The crackdown took place on the A415, outside the European School, between 8am and 10am.

Drivers travelling along the A415 towards Berinsfield were stopped if they were exceeding the 30mph limit by more than 5mph.

Twenty four drivers were caught driving between 35mph and 39mph and received roadside advice on the dangers of speeding instead of points and a fine.

Twenty three drivers travelling over 40mph picked up three points and a £60 fine, while three drivers exceeding 50mph will be summonsed to court.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said the fastest recorded speed was 56mph.

The speed check was organised as a result of accident records on the road and residents’ concerns about speeding.

PC Mark Pilling said: “These checks were carried out because there is a school on the road and a house that has been hit by speeding drivers twice in recent years.

“Clearly the results show that drivers are travelling far too fast along the road and I hope the check makes them think twice about the dangers of speeding and the fact they are putting themselves and other road users at risk.”
