Sir – I much appreciated being able to walk along Queen Street on Sunday without having to constantly check I was about to be run over. The buses that remain also seemed to be on their best behaviour, doing not much more than walking pace.

I hope the county moves quickly to widen the pavements, so everyone can see how much more space there is without the buses stopping.

Less good was standing in the rain outside County Hall, where stop E5 has no shelter, and hardly any pavement. These buses (4 and 400) used to depart from Castle Street, and were spread over two stops and two large shelters. This needs to be rectified as a matter of urgency.

The widening of the pavement and the new zebra crossing at the corner of Castle Street were very helpful, but there would be so much more room if the subway was filled in. Oxford will not be transformed until the subway has gone.
