A group of charity fundraisers is looking to swell its ranks with new members and helpers.

The Witney fundraising team of the Oxfordshire charity Against Breast Cancer – which organises Witney in the Pink day each October as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month – has seen two members leave this year.

ABC chairman Jeanne Chattoe said: “Witney in the Pink Day is a fantastic event which is supported and enjoyed by the whole town, and each year we raise about £5,000 towards Against Breast Cancer’s pioneering research into finding a vaccine for this dreadful disease.

“That is our major fundraiser each year, but we also run other really successful events. After a three-year break, this year we brought back our fantastic fashion show – which raised more than £2,000, and we run two Christmas shopping trips each year to Bath and Birmingham, which last year raised £700.”

The fundraising team has a core membership of six women, the majority of whom also work full-time.

Mrs Chattoe added: “We would really like some fresh blood, fresh ideas and energy. Fundraising for the charity is really inspiring and fun, and anyone who would like to find out more is welcome to come along to one of our monthly meetings.

“We also need people to sign up to our register of helpers – people who shake tins, bake cakes and run stalls at our events.

“It can be hard work, but it is fun.”

Witney in the Pink Day takes place on October 3, while the Christmas shopping trip to Birmingham is on November 14, and the trip to Bath is on November 28.
