A tyre fitter who was fraudulently claiming benefits while still working was caught after a tip-off from a member of the public.
Oliver Robinson, of Mill Close, Deddington, made claims for housing and council tax benefit amounting to almost £800.
He worked as a tyre and exhaust fitter between April 30 and August 12, 2007 but continued to make income support claims.
The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming £607.52 in housing benefit and £178.69 in council tax benefit when he appeared at Banbury Magistrates’ Court.
Robinson was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 in costs.
He was also told to pay back the money he fraudulently claimed.
The case was brought by Cherwell District Council.
