ROMAN army drilling, pot washing and story-telling helped people learn more about their ancestors at an archaeology open day.
Students from Oxford University, who take part in a training dig each July, threw open the gates of their excavations at Frilford, near Abingdon, to 1,000 members of the public on Sunday.
Archaeology professor Gary Lock said: “I think people find it interesting the fact it is there at all. It’s just a field most of the time but underneath there is actually a great big Roman complex. It’s a Roman religious site so there is a temple and amphitheatre among other buildings dating back to the 3rd and 4th century AD.”
