Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist smashed a car windscreen with his cycle in Botley.

At about 5pm on Friday, July 17, a cyclist and the driver of a silver Ford Fiesta were involved in an altercation near to the West Way/Church Way area of Botley.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman, and the cyclist had an argument in the street before the cyclist allegedly picked up his bicycle and used it to smash the front windscreen of the Fiesta, before riding off in the direction of Westminster Way.

Police only released details today.

The cyclist was a white man, with light-coloured hair, about 5ft 10in to 6ft tall and in his mid to late twenties. He was wearing a dark top and was riding a red mountain bike.

PC Andy Matheson said: “This is a particularly violent and upsetting incident which has left the driver extremely shaken and with serious damage to her car, rendering it undriveable.

“I am keen to catch whoever is responsible and appeal to the cyclist and anyone who might have seen the incident, to come forward.

“This happened at a time of day when there were plenty people travelling home from work through the area, and I am hopeful that someone might have some information to help with my inquiries.”

Anyone with information which could help the police should contact PC Matheson at Abingdon police station via 0845 8 505 505, or if you don’t want to talk to the police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
