THE issue of housing seems never to be far from the headlines. And so it is again, with the start of an important public inquiry in Oxford.
Housing developments across the city are currently under the spotlight, but the first controversy has erupted with those living near to the Northern Gateway proposal, at Pear Tree, furious about claims – strongly refuted by Oxford City Council – that their homes could be compulsorily purchased in order for the scheme to go ahead.
With controversial proposals in Barton and Greater Leys to come, expect more fireworks.
