THOUSANDS of children attended Bayswater School in Headington, Oxford, during its 50-year existence.

This is part of one of those popular panoramic photographs, in which all pupils and staff took part. It was taken in 1960.

The picture belongs to Tony Evans, of Grays Road, Headington, who was at the school from 1960-64.

Bayswater Secondary Modern School opened in September 1953 to cater for children from Barton, which was growing rapidly at that time.

In 1975, when Oxford adopted a three-tier system of comprehensive education, it became Bayswater Middle School, for children aged nine to 13.

In 2003, when Oxford reverted to a two-tier system, all middle schools became obsolete and Bayswater Middle School closed.

Barton Village First School moved on to its site, adopting the new name of Bayards Hill Primary School.

Do you recognise yourself or anyone else in the picture? And any memories of the school to share with readers?

Look out for the other two sections of the school picture soon.
