A TEN-YEAR-OLD is jumping for joy after discovering a natural talent for dancing.

Enya Christiansen of the Flair Dance Studio in Cowley, Oxford, dazzled the judges and came first in the southern area Freestyle Dance Championships.

Despite having only danced seriously for a year, Enya beat 400 competitors to land the title, even though some of the dancers she competed against were over 16 and far more experienced.

The competition involved Enya dancing with the others in her age group to a disco track lasting two minutes. Once the winners were announced for each age group, they had to dance alone and it was Enya’s solo performance that saw her come first overall.

Proud mother Michelle said: “She’s got a natural talent for dance. She’s not very good at sitting still, so she’s always moving.”

Mrs Christiansen said Enya first took an interest in dancing at the age of six but only went to a few classes before taking up ice-skating. But, at the age of nine, she quit the skating and joined the Flair Dance Studio in Cowley where she now trains five hours a week.

Dance teacher Kelly Poulter, a former British freestyle champion, said: “Enya is doing brilliantly considering she has not been dancing for long”.
