I HAVE been following the articles in the Oxford Mail regarding the reopening of the White House public house in Botley Road.
Would the new proprietor consider reverting the pub’s name to its original – ‘The Old Gate’. To my knowledge, the pub had that name way back in time and marked the spot where the entrance to the city stood.
As added interest, my grandfather, Fred King who lived in Barrett Street, Osney, played the piano in the Old Gate before the First World War.
