Your report Opposition backs Tax Rebel’s Plan (July 6) reminded me that Margaret Thatcher abolished the link between the basic state pension and earnings in the 1980s which caused a far greater loss of income than the scrapping of the 10p tax rate.

It has been estimated that the breaking of the link amounts to a loss for each pensioner, on average of over £35 per week at today’s prices.

When will someone begin a real campaign to restore this serious loss of income, I wonder.
