This year’s Uffington White Horse Show takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 30-31). The show has been running for more than 30 years and has raised more than £250,000 for local good causes.

It is organised entirely by volunteers from the village of Uffington(population 700), but achieves a professional standard that is the envy of many commercial shows, and it regularly attracts more than 10,000 visitors.

The highlight of the 2009 show will undoubtedly be the displays by the incredible Team Guinot Wing Walkers.

Other acts making their Uffington debut will be the Star Rhapsody Steel Band, providing a real Caribbean carnival atmosphere on Sunday, and the Southern Syncopaters Jazz Band on Monday.

Another new event this year, very much in the show’s ‘Countryside and Family’ theme, will be an elegant dressage and side saddle display.

All the show’s regular favourites will be back including the beautiful Shire horses (Sunday), historic vehicles, Professor Crump, helicopter rides, grand funfair, dozens of craft stalls and lots, lots more. David Seamark’s sheepdogs and Ray Prior Falconry will appear both days and there will be an amazing roving magician, Peter Stirrup.

Visitors can try their hand at country pursuits like archery or indulge themselves at the Vicar’s Chocolate Fountain. There is a great Natural World marquee which will include the famous TV Otters (Monday) and where younger visitors can enjoy handling the animals of Farms2Ewe.

The show is a fantastic day out for visitors of all ages. Admission is just £8 for adults, £6 for pensioners and children, or £20 admits a family of two adults and up to three children under-16.
