CONSERVATIONIST David Bellamy has been helping Oxfordshire schoolchildren plant trees for their future, as part of the ‘It’s up to us’ scheme.
The Vale Housing Association, which is taking part in the national Tree Appeal, invited the renowned botanist to visit Grove CofE Primary and Abingdon’s Caldecott Primary schools.
At Grove Primary, his first port of call, the children even gave him a rousing greeting, singing a song called “It’s up to us” in their welcome assembly.
Prof Bellamy, 76, then gave an energetic presentation to all the children on the importance of trees to the environment.
He said: "Congratulations to Vale Housing Association for committing to planting trees with Tree Appeal!
“Through doing so we demonstrate a real commitment to healing our environment which can benefit us, not just now, but for years to come".
He then joined pupils and representatives from Vale Housing and the Tree Appeal team to plant new trees outside in the school grounds.
