Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery at a graveyard in Cowley, Oxford.

While walking through the graveyard on Church Hill Road at 11.30pm last night, the victim was approached by a man who demanded money from him.

When the victim refused, the man punched him in the chest. To defend himself, the victim fought back, punching the man in the head and stomach.

The would-be robber then fell to the floor, allowing the victim to escape to a nearby house and call the police.

The robber is believed to be about six feet tall, and was wearing white trainers.
