MEMBERS of the public can view plans for the £3.5m redevelopment of Abingdon’s County Hall museum this month.

The town council secured a £2m Heritage Lottery grant last summer to build a lift in the museum, create more exhibition space and turn the basement into a cafe. And on Thursday, April 16, Abingdon Town Council will hold a public meeting in the Guildhall, from 7.30pm, so people can see how the project to breathe new life into the 17th century landmark building, in the Market Place, is progressing.

Project manager James Carter-Brown, and project architects, Adrian Kite and Graham Blackburn, will be at the meeting to answer any questions about the scheme.

Julie Mayhew Archer, chairman of the Abingdon Museum committee, said: “It’s about education and children and families, as well as the opening up of more space in the basement for the cafe and, of course, the lift.

“Our fundraising effort has gone very well and we are very pleased that both the county and the district councils are supporting the project.”
