Theresa May, the Conservative shadow secretary for work and pensions, has visited the county’s first job club.
She talked to job seekers about what they thought of the club and other issues such as unemployment, training, benefits and setting up a business.
Mrs May also met the organisations behind the job club, which meets at the Mill, Spiceball every Friday, about the potential to roll it out to other parts of the country.
Banbury MP Tony Baldry came up with the idea to help the scores of people in and around the town who were facing redundancy because of the worsening economic situation.
Next week he is due to give a talk to Conservative party members at Westminster about what the job club has achieved and how it was set up.
