FUNDRAISERS across Oxfordshire will be painting the county red for Comic Relief on Friday.

And it is not just humans taking part in Red Nose Day – animals at Burford’s Cotswold Wildlife Park have been doing their bit too.

Creatures great and small have been lending a helping paw and horn in celebration of Comic Relief.

It is a case of Friday the 13th bringing good luck, rather than bad, and raising plenty of money for the charity.

The park is getting staff and animals to wear red noses in a bid to encourage visitors to donate money on the day.

Bull, right, a Southern White rhino and one of the park’s original residents, will be wearing his red nose with pride to help raise funds for charities both in the UK and back in Bull’s native homeland of Africa.

He will be joined by the wildlife park’s meerkats, who have been getting to grips with their nosewear, far right.

Curator Jamie Craig said: “Keepers at the Cotswold Wildlife Park will get into the spirit of Comic Relief by providing red noses filled with fruit and other tasty treats for its group of meerkats.

“While raising money for Comic Relief, we will be able to give the meerkats a fun time.”

On Sunday, shoppers at the TK Maxx retail store in Oxford were able to browse names on a large signed red nose T-shirt. The item of clothing has been transported to stores across the country in aid of Comic Relief. Store manager Shelley Thompson said: “During the past five weeks, customers have been donating £1 and we have so far raised £3,500 for Comic Relief.

“The T-shirt has been signed by staff at branches across the country.”

A team of 140 motorcyclists took part in a challenge to ride from Banbury to Wales — and back — in a day.

The team set off from Sainsbury’s supermarket in Oxford Road, on Sunday.
