Sir – Besides the closing of Magdalen Bridge on May Morning, there is a further instance of discrimination against those who live east of the river.

When the cycle track over the Cherwell water meadows was flooded after the recent snow, a metal sign helpfully saying ‘Cycle track closed due to flooding’ was put up at the South Parks Road end of the track. No sign was put up at the Marston end, however. The same thing has happened on previous occasions: the ‘gown’ end gets a sign but the ‘town’ end does not.
