I agree with Victoria Owen’s opinion of Somerset as a good holiday venue (Oxford Mail, Globetrotter).

Last year, instead of going to money-grabbing Cornwall, where you even have to pay for disabled parking slots along with other tourist-fleecing schemes, my wife and I travelled to Somerset.

For our holiday, we went near to Minehead. And what a difference we noticed.

As well as free disabled parking spaces, there were courteous, helpful locals; reasonable prices when dining out; and polite staff in shops and pubs.

However, be careful of the locally produced alcoholic drinks – as the blackberry wine can be up to 70 per cent proof!

Needless to say I am returning to Somerset this year for another happy holiday.
