Train operator Wrexham & Shropshire, which links Banbury with Telford, Shrewsbury and North-East Wales, is set to alter its timetable to provide a service leaving London during the evening peak on weekdays.
A consultation document on proposed changes to Chiltern Railways’ services from May says a number of trains departing from London Marylebone just after 6.30pm could be retimed to allow a W&S service to run.
It is likely this train would call at Banbury, at about 7.45pm, to pick up passengers bound for Shropshire and Wales.
The current 4.33pm train from London runs non-stop through the station, but all other W&S services stop at Banbury to drop off passengers southbound and pick them up northbound.
W&S managing director Andy Hamilton said: “In response to feedback from our passengers, we’re considering changes to the timetable to provide an additional afternoon service from London.
“There’s currently a significant gap between our 4.33pm and 8.03pm departures.
“We’re in close discussions with Chiltern Railways regarding amendments to the current timetable, which would allow for a third afternoon service.
“The May timetable will continue to see Wrexham & Shropshire provide five trains a day in both directions and we will update passengers on the new timetable in due course.”
