OXON: Books chain Waterstone’s is refusing to say if staff at its Oxfordshire branches are affected by redundancy plans.

About 200 jobs are to be cut at 303 stores across the country, as a new book distribution hub goes into operation in Burton-on-Trent.

Waterstone’s has branches in Broad Street, Oxford, Market Square, Witney, and Castle Quay, Banbury.

Jon Howells, a spokesman for Waterstone’s, said a 90-day consultation period would begin shortly with those affected, and that a number of redundancies would occur as a result.
