Police have made a number of further arrests in connection with an armed robbery in Stanton Harcourt.

At 10.20am on Friday, a man went into the village post office and stores and stole some cash and cigarettes and ran off to a waiting car.

A 29-year-old man from Witney was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody after detectives were today given a 36-hour extension.

Four other people from the Witney area have also been arrested for conspiracy to rob and all remain in custody. They are:

  • A 32-year-old man arrested on Saturday
  • A 32-year-old woman arrested on Saturday
  • A 21-year-old man arrested on Sunday
  • A 21-year-old man arrested today.

A 19-year-old woman was also arrested on Saturday but has since been released without charge.

These arrests are in addition to two men, both aged in their mid thirties, who were arrested on Friday and released on bail to return to Witney police station on February 5.

Police investigating the incident are continuing to appeal for the public's help.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw an old-style green Rover car that sped away from the area - the car has since been found abandoned in Wadards Meadow, Witney.

Det Sgt Richard White, of Witney CID, said “As the Rover sped out of Stanton Harcourt, we believe it got caught behind a silver estate, whose driver we are keen to speak to.

“The Rover was being driven erratically; the estate’s driver should not be concerned about how they reacted to that and I urge them come forward.”

Anyone with any information should contact Det Sgt Richard White at Witney CID via 0845 8 505 505.
