Oxford United are set to face an 11-point deduction.
The club will appear before the Football Association on Monday to answer the charge which has seen the field an unregistered player - Eddie Hutchinson.
Hutchinson was transfer listed by former boss Darren Patterson, and as such I understand was not registered by the club for this season.
However, injuries meant that Hutchinson was called upon to play, and the U's had not registered him with the FA.
United gained 11 points before the problem came to light in November.
It means that Chris Wilder's side can wave goodbye to any hopes of a play-off place and instead face a battle against relegation.
Keep up to date with any developments online at oxfordmail.co.uk and in Monday's Oxford Mail.
