A robber threatened staff at a rural post office during an armed raid.
The man, wearing a balaclava and gloves, went into Stanton Harcourt Post Office, at about 10.20am yesterday.
He threatened staff with a firearm then stole cash and cigarettes and ran off to a waiting car which drove away towards the Eynsham to Hardwick road.
Det Sgt Richard White, of Witney CID, said: “We are at an early stage of investigating this very serious incident and I am appealing for anyone to contact us who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in Stanton Harcourt, or a car driving erratically on the B4449.”
Detectives are keeping an open mind about whether this incident is connected to the recent spate of armed robberies in Oxfordshire.
Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
