Warmer weather is on the way this weekend.

Despite a foggy start to today, with temperatures remaining as low as -2C, temperatures will rise throughout the day to 3C, according to the Met Office.

Temperatures will remain just above freezing tomorrow night, with sunny spells breaking through on Sunday and temperatures reaching 7C.

Last week, the temperature at RAF Benson’s weather station fell to -12C.

Elika Saedi, a spokesman for the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust, said staff at accident and emergency departments reported an increase in the number of ankle and wrist injuries this week, after a rise in people slipping on icy roads and pavements.

Plumbers in the county have also reported a slight increase in the number of customers needing help with burst pipes.

John Jones, a spokesman for Abingdon-based Plumb Centre, said: “We have had quite a few calls from people who have had problems with pipes splitting due to cold weather.”
