The owners of an Oxford care home where a pensioner died after falling from an upstairs window were today ordered to pay £200,000.
Southern Cross Healthcare was fined £80,000 and ordered to pay £120,000 costs after Maisie Jones, 82, died after falling from a first-floor window at the Brookfield Christian Care Home in Little Bury, Greater Leys, in June 2003.
Representatives from the company admitted two breaches of health and safety regulations.
Oxford Crown Court heard Mrs Jones, a former beautician who was suffering from dementia, died two months later from pneumonia contracted as a result of the immobility she suffered after fracturing her pelvis during the fall.
