Car parking charges at city council-run car parks have increased by an average of 15 per cent.

Motorists parking in Gloucester Green now have to pay £1.80 more for a stay of between one and two hours on a Saturday — up from £4.70 to £6.50 — or up 38 per cent.

Those parking for up to one hour will find the price has risen from £3 to £3.80, an increase of 27 per cent.

Charges have increased at all city centre car parks, including Westgate and Worcester Street. and Prices have also gone up at Diamond Place and Ferry Pool in Summertown.

Prices will rise at St Clement’s and Union Street in East Oxford from Monday, and at car parks in Headington on January 29.

City council leaders announced the increases in November because the local authority is facing budget pressures.
