Two men have been arrested in connection with the series of armed robberies that have taken place in Headington.

The men, aged 27 and 53, were arrested yesterday shortly after an armed robbery on a bus in Northway Road, Barton.

At about 9.43pm, a man got on to a bus, threatened the driver with a knife and demanded he hand over cash. The driver did this and the man got off the bus.

The offender was arrested near to the scene by officers. Another man was arrested at an address in Brome Place, Barton.

Det Insp Simon Morton said: “We would like to reassure the public that following the arrests we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the five other robberies that have taken place at premises in Headington.

“We will be continuing with high-visibility patrols in Headington this weekend to provide reassurance to retailers and the public.”

Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries is urged to contact Det Insp Morton via Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 11.
