Firefighters rescued a man from his burning house in Faringdon after a blaze started during the early hours today.
Fire crews were called after the resident’s smoke detector went off at 1.52am in Ferndale Street.
They pulled the man out of the smoke-filled house following a severe blaze on the first floor of the two-storey terraced home at the end of the street.
A spokesman for Oxfordshire fire and rescue service said the man was treated by paramedics for burns to his foot and for the effects of breathing in smoke.
She added: “He was saved because of his smoke detector.”
