You report (Oxford Mail, January 7) the excellent news that Oxfordshire county councillor Ian Hudspeth, cabinet member for transport, attended the south east area committee to present the Transform Oxford project to pedestrianise more of Oxford city centre.
I hope that he will find time to attend other area committees.
You quote him as expecting people to be positive about the scheme.
The vision is indeed exciting, but many people believe that the devil is in the detail, and that the scheme will not be achievable, because of increased congestion and inconvenience to small shop keepers, bus passengers and people with disabilities. For example, the report is illustrated with an artist’s impression of Magdalen Street in the future.
But this picture omits the bus turning circle at the south end of St Giles.
This would be an integral part of the scheme, and occupy the whole of the foreground of the visionary picture.
DERMOT ROAF, Oxfordshire County Councillor, Wolvercote and Summertown Division, County Hall, New Road, Oxford
