A New Year brawl between 30 and 40 people has been described by police as one of the most serious types of disorder seen in Kidlington for years.

Police today appealed for information on the mass fight outside The Red Lion pub, in Oxford Road, which began at around 12.50am on January 1.

Police officers, including dog handlers, attended but the trouble did not stop until around 2am.

Since then two people have come forward to police to report assaults.

Pc John Milne, from Kidlington Police station, said: “Kidlington is normally a quiet place, so this type of disorder was completely out of the ordinary.

“In six years of working here I have never seen anything on this scale and I am thankful that no one was more seriously inured.

“There were around 300 people in the Red Lion and many of them would have had their New Year celebrations ruined by this incident.

“We are keen to find out who was behind the violence so they can be brought to justice.

“If you were at the Red Lion that night please get in touch and tell us what you saw.

“Additionally, if you were assaulted yourself we would advise you to come forward so the matter can be properly dealt with.”
