A man who confessed to stabbing his wife in a "frenzied attack" has been sentenced to life in prison at Oxford Crown Court today.

Mohammed Rashid, 35, walked into Banbury's police station in September and told officers that a woman's body was at his home.

He pleaded guilty to murdering Sughra Rani, 30, between September 15 and 17 at the house the couple shared with their two young children in Mold Crescent, Banbury.

At an earlier hearing, Banbury Magistrates' Court heard Rashid had killed Mrs Rani in a "frenzied attack", stabbing her 16 times.

Magistrates were told the violent heard attack happened after Rashid discovered his wife was allegedly having an affair with a Kurdish man.

Rashid and his wife both came to the UK about 12 years ago in an arranged marriage. They ini-tially lived with his parents before moving to Mold Crescent.

The couple have two children, aged six and four. Rashid's parents still live in the town, as does Mrs Rani's brother Mohammed Munawwar.Her parents live in her native Pakistan.
