Police are appealing for witnesses after a man robbed a bookmakers in Oxford.

At 7.26pm on Saturday, a man, who had his face covered and was wearing a hooded top, went into the branch of Betfred on London Road.

He then demanded the cashier to fill a bag with cash which he made off with, in the direction of Barton.

Det Sgt Kevin Parsons said: “The robber just used words to threaten the cashier and it is not thought that he had a weapon with him.

“At this time we are investigating every possible avenue and are keeping an open mind as to whether this is being linked to the robbery at the bookmakers that happened on December 29, and an incident on 23 December when a man entered the branch, jumped over the counter and stole some money from the tills.

“At this stage we are not linking this incident to the recent armed robbery series that has occurred in Oxford and South Oxfordshire.

“I appeal to anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in London Road on Saturday evening to please contact us. Did you see someone outside Betfred before these incidents or someone making off on a bike afterwards? If you saw something, then please get in touch.”
