I read Chris Boswell’s letter Watch out for lights (Oxford Mail, December 3) and his complaints about neighbours who decorate the outside of the houses and their gardens at Christmas.

Christmas at the Boswell’s sounds ‘green’ and basic – which is not necessarily a bad thing. But he needs to understand that everyone enjoys Christmas in their own way.

I’m lucky to be surrounded by exceptionally good neighbours. One does the full outside house and garden thing, though thankfully assembled by a fully qualified electrician.

I said to the husband that their electricity bill must be horrendous but he said: “No Mick. I’ve wired it into your house!”

He was joking – I hope.

So Chris, ponder on the following: a friend was complaining to her brother about the unusual andd irritating foibles of her new next door neighbour, but was stopped in her tracks when her brother asked her: “Who’s got the best neighbour – you or her?’’ Live and let live, I say.

It makes live so much more enjoyable, and gives a more varied choice of things to complain about.
